So I Write Music For Soundtracks Now

Tue Apr 11, 2006, 7:42 PM
I like thinking that Guided By Voices is "one of those bands I found out about in college." Granted, I had a burned copy of "Under the Bushes, Under the Stars" because I heard "Don't Stop Now" somewhere in high school and fell in love with it, but never listened to the album. A couple of months ago I fell completely in love with it and it's my favorite GBV album. I'm still discovering their discography too. After throughly digesting "Bee Thousand," "Alien Lanes," and "Under the Busehs, Under the Stars," I've moved forward and backwards to "Isolation Drills" and "Earthquake Glue" (It's so fucked up to hear what Guided by Voices sounds like as a pop band, it hardly sounds like GBV a lot of the time) and "Vampire on Titus" and "Propeller." The first two songs on "Propeller" almost made me cry for some reason. Maybe because they opened their last live show with it. Check out "The Electrifying Conclusion" on DVD it's pretty awesome, even though the video and sound quality kind of sucks...but hi-fi never was their style. They have a bar on stage for christ's sake! And you get to watch Bob Pollard almost drink himself to death over the course of 60 songs, culminating in, what else but "Don't Stop Now." It was beautiful and sent chills down my spine. Anyway, listen to Guided by Voices, it's good.
